Case study: Threecolts

A $90m funding launch, a founder's voice, and three acquisitions brought into one story

The company

Threecolts is a London-based e-commerce software company, launched in 2021, that grew quickly through 2022 and 2023, buying business after business to serve tens of thousands of maketplace sellers around the world. Our founder spent that period working full time alongside CEO Yoda Yee through a $90m funding round and every deal that followed.

The challenge

The company was raising significant capital and buying businesses at speed, and each acquisition arrived with its own customers, product language and loyalties. The founder had a sharp view of where e-commerce was heading but no time to write it down. Meanwhile, the people who mattered most, including investors, the US tech press, and the sellers who used the tools every day, all needed to understand Threecolts as one coherent business rather than a collection of purchases.

What we did

  • Coordinated the US press launch of the company's funding announcement alongside its PR agency, which led to coverage including TechCrunch's report on the $90m raise.

  • Wrote a collection of the founder's bylined thought leadership in Forbes and Fast Company, including "Five Ways to Improve Your Acquisition Valuation for Your SaaS Startup" and "Why Rapid Growth for a Start-up Isn't Always Good".

  • Brought acquired products, among them FeedbackWhiz, ChannelReply and DimeTyd, into a single Threecolts narrative without alienating the customers who had chosen them first.

  • Built the company's editorial processes and workflows from scratch.

The result

A fast-growing, acquisitive company that presented to investors, press and customers as one business with one story, and a founder whose ideas were worth reading.

Case study: Public.Digital

A short film conceived, written and produced to highlight digital transformation in Edo, Nigeria.

The client
Public.Digital is a global consultancy that helps governments and large institutions transform how they work in the internet era.

The project
PD was working with the Edo State Government in Nigeria to build the digital capability of its civil and public servants, and to create public services that were more user-centred, sustainable and inclusive. The organisation needed a film that would show what that work actually looked like on the ground.

The challenge
Films about digital transformation have a habit of turning into slides with music: new systems, upbeat statistics, people nodding in front of laptops. The creative challenge was to find the human story inside the programme, and to answer a harder question: what does technological change really mean for the people working inside government, and ultimately for the citizens who depend on its services?

What our founder did

  • Developed the original concept and narrative approach, and wrote the film.

  • Produced the project from the UK, commissioning a Nigerian director and production company to shoot on location in Edo State.

  • Oversaw the production remotely, by phone, working closely with the crew as the material was captured.

  • Shaped the final narrative in post-production with a UK-based editor.

Role: concept and story development, writer, producer, remote creative direction

The result
A short documentary that tells the story of a government transformation programme through the people living it, made across two continents without the producer ever setting foot on set.
